Lefties take down Sweets, have chance to sweep
Written by: Ryan Wike
The Lefties came into game two with momentum built up and let it all fly in game two in Walla Walla. But it took everyone to pull off a 6-5, nail-biting win.
From the start, the Lefties pitching staff came in hot with Jackson Price (uncommitted) throwing the first three frames and only gave up one hit. The Lefties would go on to reach into the ‘pen, throwing four more arms who all dominated Kole Acker (uncommitted) stood out, tossing three innings while striking out four and only giving up three hits. Closer Jack Joyce (Mount Hood) came in to finish the job in a threatening situation with the Lefties up by one. Two Sweets runners reached base, but Joyce came through to secure the series win for Port Angeles.
On the other side of the ball, the Lefties hitters came through again for the team. Port Angeles knocked out the Walla Walla starter early and picked apart the staff, tacking up six runs for the win. Kosei Suzuki (Frank Phillips), Zach Blair (Mount Hood) and Jason Leon (California State, Bakersfield) — who has a .667 average across two league games — all played well at the plate.
The trio of hitters all had a pair of hits at the plate, and it was Leon’s bases-loaded walk that sent the winning run home in the seventh inning of a 5-5 ballgame.
Port Angeles put up four other runs in the sixth, sending 10 batters to the dish. Blair had one of his two hits in the frame, driving home a run with his one-out single.
The Lefties return tonight at 6:35 again, looking to sweep the Walla Walla Sweets.
